Decorating Gingerbread Men And Visual Discrimination

We had a whole lot of  fun today! The kids decorated Gingerbread Men Cookies, for some it was the first time ever! They all did an awesome job. If we had the whole day to this activity, I bet it would of kept their attention the whole time. They all did this as an individual activity during snack time.

I also had an activity for them to complete that was just begging to go with the snack time theme.

In the bag were matching Gingerbread Men, and they were to pull them out one by one and make matches.

And if they wanted to they could then color two Gingerbread Men just alike.

It is safe to say that today was an memorable day at preschool.

Water pouring. This set was a big hit last year!!

                                               Flour sifting.

                 Transferring cinnamon sticks with tweezers.

             Transferring water using an eyedropper.

Folding napkins, using the lines as a control of error.

Sorting buttons by color, this is a bit tricky because it has two shades of red, and two shades of green.

              Sequencing triangels, circles, and squares.

Making A Pumpkin Softie

The children are really taking to sewing, so I thought I would whip up something else for them to keep those hands busy. This pumpkin softie was quick and easy. I used felt and sewing glue to make the bottom end, stem and leaves. The circle metal inset came in handy to make the shape. This is how I set it up.

When the child chooses this work they place the pumpkin parts (the front and the back circle pieces) on the clear tray along with the needle and thread to their work space.

When they have sewn the pumpkin halfway they may go get a bag filled with stuffing, and the stuffing tool to fill the pumpkin. After they have stuffed their pumpkin, they return the unused stuffing or empty baggie back to the basket with the stuffing tool. Then they finish sewing the rest, when finish return the needle to the tray.

The Stuffing tool will be a new point of interest with this work.

For The Love Of Animals

I added a new work to the language shelves. Matching animals to their shadows I purchased this from Montessori Print Shop. Jessica enjoyed this work so much that it inspired her to work with all the Zoology Animal Puzzles that I have avaliable on the shelves.

     Matching animals to their shadows.

Jessica was very excited when she completed this work.

Next thing I noticed she was having her own marathon doing animal puzzles one after another.

                                                 Rooster

                                                    Bird

                                                  Frog

                                               Snail

                                                   Horse

I love seeing how after each puzzle she worked with her pincer grip got better and better each time. Don't you just love it when children get inspired?
