Landforms

The Landforms are popular work with the children. The children learn the names of the six landforms that I have avaliable over a period of time. Most have acquired the names through sensorial experiences, or carrying out their practical life skills. Jamesha uses the landforms everyday in order to satisfy her pratical life skills. Jamesha loves all practical life activities, and will carry out these activities all day everyday whenever she can.

Jamesha loves pouring so this work is right up her alley.

She is very careful about any water getting on the land. Before I introduced the name of the landforms, I used the model for sponge squeezing work months ago.

Getting more water to continue to fill other landforms.

                                      Emptying the landforms

                                  Rinsing the landforms

                                     Drying the landforms

Returning the work to the shelf, ready for someone else to use.

No one else was able to work with the landforms today, because Jamesha completed this same activity over and over at least seven times that I counted today. As soon as she returned it to the shelf, she took it off the shelf making sure to complete the work cycle everytime. Jamesha did this work with the same focus and     concentration she had the first time she started working with work.

  1. What a wonderful post that describes the beauty of indirect purposes of a material! I love your series of photos documenting Jamesha's work cycles, too. Thanks for sharing.

  3. One of our daughters enjoyed working with the landforms so much—just like this child. It is joyous to see so much enjoyment in the process of clean up as well.
