Marble Painting

                                           You probably seen this activity done on lots of different blogs. Today the children really learned a lot from just this activity. Art: Exploring color change,using different mediums for painting. Language: Learning the letter name of M, learning the sound that M makes, learning new vocabulary. Practical Life: Learning how to hold a tray, hand-eye coordination.

                                                                   

                                               I highly recommend marble painting. I did this as an individual activity. I thought maybe the activity would be done in five minutes. The children enjoyed it so much that the average time the child stayed engaged with this activity was twenty minutes. This is a work that I am going to have avaliable on the shelf.

Toddler Tuesday

  Last week the toddlers spent their time in the staple of our classroom the "Practical Life Area" .  Some worked with some sensorial materials. The toddlers are focused enough now to sit for ten minute stories. They are super at picking works off the shelves. As soon as I present new works, they work with them. They enjoy the enviroment and take care of it as well. A parent looked at me in a bizarre way the other day when they saw the toddlers cleaning up the work area (never estimate the power of a multiage group, the olders model and the younger ones follow). This all happened while the parent and I continued our conversation. The mothers' response was I didn't know she could clean up after herself.  I am sorry for not giving notice, but yes "Kay" has been doing this for months now. Take a look at some of their activities

Montessori Monday

      Unbelieveable how the kids are still working with focused concentration!! The weather has been beautiful here. They are sticking to the routine. I have been waiting on a moment to take a break, they won't give one. Am I complaining NO!! I am a bit tickled. Many will say that everybody needs a break, I guess if you are bored with what your doing. We are never bored here. We are happy and excited about all the new things that we are exploring and learning. Take a look.

Three Times Around The Sun

                          Today we had a birthday celebration at school. Jamesha turned three years old. Jamesha brought in cupcakes to share with her friends. I haven't did the Montessori Style birthday celebration with the kids yet. Today I improvised with the Land/Water globe, she did her walk with grace and a smile. Jamesha blew out the candle and the fun begin.

Jamesha in the past months has spent a lot of time in the practical life area. Recently she has become more interested in the World Puzzle Map.

Jamesha has been a very good teacher for me. Jamesha has taught me how following the child is the best way to interact, educate, and grow companionship with a child. I say she taught me this because when I first started montessori activities she wasn't part of the "lesson plans".  I figured she was two years old, how could I possibly get her to sit for a presentation. Jameshas' persistence, curiosity in the materials, and absorbent mind changed all that. Jameshas' two year old friends became happier, and Jamesha has become a leader and really dosen't have a clue that she is. I love her for this and she will always have a special place in my heart.  Thank you Jamesha!!

Color Sorting

 The toddlers have been interested in colors now that they have watched the olders doing color mixing activities. They have been learning the color names through the color tablets, before they were just working with them as a matching exercise. Here is an activity they have been enjoying.

            The children line up the color bottles vertically then match objects according to the color.
            They  love the color bottles and have been walking around with them shaking them and calling the color name out loud.

                                              

They also enjoy the objects.

After showing them how to so this activity I presented the color tablets with the three period lesson.

                                                
                            In just a couple of days they now know the names of the all the colors in color box #1.
                            I have a few more extensions planned to ensure they have mastery.
