We have been learning about life on the farm. The children have become very aware of some of the chores that Farmers have to do. To give them a better understanding of all the hard work a farmer must do we made butter. Making butter was so much fun and they loved their reward for their hard work, take a look.
Pouring the whipping cream into a jar using a funnel. Jamesha slowed down pouring a little too late, spills are a necessity in preschool, thank goodness we prepared this so that the dish could catch the spill so we could continue and clean later.
Shaking the jar to make our butter.
Things that go together, bread and butter. The children cut on the dotted line to glue the wheat on the bread.
Slicing bread work.
Our butter and bread.
Slicing bread. Oh no! this is not child friendly bread for slicing. The bread was much too big, slicing the bread was unsuccessful. Usually DJ and I try out the lesson first so I am able to better prepare he was sleeping when the bread was ready to be tried out for slicing. I just realized I didn't take any photos of them spreading the butter on the bread, they really liked doing that.
The reward!! They said "Mmmm, good, yummmy"
Great activity!!
ReplyDeleteMaking the butter is a perfect activity for life on a farm. I also love how you incorporated the other activities in to your theme. We made butter when Elle was 18 months and she had a lot of fun with it. I need to get it back out again and let her have fun with it. So, thanks for the reminder. Take care, Kerri
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your wonderful blog! I never thought of making butter before-we will definitely give it a try!
